Race hatred should be dealt with seriously: Bristol court Print E-mail
`Victims deserve the protection of the court’

`

26th October 2009: Race hatred should be dealt with seriously by the court, and the victims deserve the protection of the court: a district Judge has ruled.

The ruling came in a case involving three British teenagers. They have found guilty and face a jail sentence at the Bristol magistrates’ court after being accused of launching a series of racist attacks on an Indian-origin shopkeeper and creating violence in another shop in Bristol, UK, on June 6.

Available information suggests as shopkeeper Ashok Selvam and his staff were subjected to a series of blows and punches, the attacks were caught on CCTV camera.

Twins Justin and Luke Lovedale, 17, and Nicholas Gardener, 17, screamed racist abuse as they punched and kicked their terrified victims, the court heard.

The teenagers were found guilty of racially aggravated assault in both shops, after CCTV footage was shown to the court.

District Judge David Parsons, who is expected to pronounce the sentences on November 11, said race hatred should be dealt with seriously.
