22^rd December 2009: Check before you travel on Christmas weekend on Thursday 24 - Monday 28 December 2009, as work is on to improve the Tube, London Overground, London Tramlink and DLR.

As such, TfL has urged all Londoners and visitors to the city to “check before you travel” at weekends, allowing extra journey time where necessary.

London Tramlink has no planned work this weekend. A Saturday service will operate on Thursday 24 December. There is no service on Christmas Day. A Sunday service will operate on Boxing Day, Saturday 26 December, starting at 08:30 and a normal Sunday service on 27 December and Bank Holiday Monday 28 December.

 London Underground

Thursday 24 December

A Saturday service will run on the Tube until 19:00, after which time trains will run less frequently.

Marylebone station on the Bakerloo line will close at 21:45.

District and Circle line trains will not be stopping at Blackfriars station until late 2011 due to Network Rail engineering work. Customers for Blackfriars are advised to use nearby Temple or Mansion House stations and/or local bus route 388. Or they can use London River Services during peak times; piers are a short walk from London Bridge, Tower Hill, Embankment, Westminster and Blackfriars stations.

The East London line is closed for major extension work until summer 2010.

Waterloo & City line trains will run every six minutes with first and last trains at Monday to Friday times.

Christmas Day Friday 25 December
There are no Tube services running.

Boxing Day Saturday 26 December

There are reduced Sunday services on all Tube lines. The first trains will run through central London at approximately 08:30. Services finish at Sunday times. The following exceptions apply:

The Bakerloo line will be suspended between Stonebridge Park and Queen’s Park, due to Network Rail engineering work, which will mean replacement buses, will be operating between Stonebridge Park and Queen’s Park, calling at all intermediate stations.  In addition Edgware Road Bakerloo line station, Kilburn Park, Lambeth North and Marylebone stations will be closed.

The Central line will be suspended between Hainault and Woodford.

In addition Buckhurst Hill, Chancery Lane, Chigwell, Fairlop, Grange Hill, Queensway, Roding Valley, Ruislip Gardens and Snaresbrook stations are closed.

District and Circle line trains will not be stopping at Blackfriars station until late 2011 due to Network Rail engineering work. Customers for Blackfriars are advised to use Temple or Mansion House stations or local bus route 388. Or they can use London River Services during peak times; piers are a short walk from London Bridge, Tower Hill, Embankment, Westminster and Blackfriars stations. In addition, Cannon Street, Farringdon, Goldhawk Road, Great Portland Street, Latimer Road, Royal Oak, Bow Road, Chiswick Park, Kensington (Olympia) Ravenscourt Park and Upminster Bridge stations will be closed. District line services to Kensington (Olympia) will not be running on that day.

The East London line is closed for major extension work until summer 2010.

On the Hammersmith & City line, Bow Road, Farringdon, Goldhawk Road, Great Portland Street, Latimer Road and Royal Oak will be closed.

The Jubilee line will be completely suspended for line upgrade work. Four replacement bus services will operate:

Service C: Between Stanmore and Wembley Park calling at Canons Park, Queensbury, Kingsbury and Wembley Park.

Service D: Between Wembley Park and Finchley Road calling at Neasden, Dollis Hill, Willesden Green, Kilburn and West Hampstead.

Service E: Between Waterloo and Canada Water calling at Southwark, London Bridge, and Bermondsey

Service F: Between North Greenwich and Stratford, calling at Canning Town and West Ham

The Metropolitan line will be suspended between Baker Street and Aldgate, Moor Park and Watford between Rickmansworth and Amersham/Chesham. For stations east of Baker Street, use the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines.

Metropolitan line trains will stop additionally at Willesden Green station.

Amersham, Chesham, Chalfont & Latimer, Chorleywood, Watford, Croxley, Moor Park, Northwood Hills, Great Portland Street and Farringdon stations will be closed

Chiltern Railways will not be running between Aylesbury and Marylebone.

Piccadilly line: Uxbridge branch customers should change at Acton Town before noon.

The Waterloo & City line will be completely suspended.

Sunday 27 December

A Sunday service on all Tube lines with the following exceptions:

London Overground

Christmas Eve Thursday 24 December

A Monday to Friday service will operate on London Overground with reduced services from 19:45 onwards and last trains departing by about 20:15.

Christmas Day Friday 25 December

There will not be any London Overground services running.

Boxing Day Saturday 26 December

There will not be any London Overground services running.

Sunday 27 December

Richmond to Stratford line

London Overground services will not be operating between:

Harrow & Wealdstone – Queen’s Park;

Richmond –Gunnersbury; please use District line.

Gunnersbury– Stratford;

Gospel Oak – Barking;

Willesden Junction – Shepherd’s Bush. Valid Overground tickets will be accepted on local bus routes, 220 between Shepherd's Bush Green and Willesden Junction and bus route 228 between Shepherd's Bush station and Willesden Junction. 

Bank Holiday Monday 28 Monday

An amended Saturday service will run on London Overground between Gospel Oak and Barking. There will be no London Overground trains operating between:

Harrow & Wealdstone – Queen’s Park;

Richmond –Gunnersbury; please use District line.

Gunnersbury– Stratford;

Gospel Oak – Barking;

Willesden Junction – Shepherd’s Bush. Valid Overground tickets will be accepted on local bus routes, 220 between Shepherd's Bush Green and Willesden Junction and bus route 228 between Shepherd's Bush station and Willesden Junction.

Docklands Light Railway (DLR) services at Bank will be suspended between Thursday 24 December and the end of January 2010 while work takes place to enable three-carriage trains to operate between Bank and Lewisham from early 2010.

On Thursday 24 December a special service will operate starting at about 05:30 with last trains at about 11:30.  DLR services will be suspended between Bank/Tower Gateway & Poplar/West India Quay due to Investment Programme works to extend platforms enabling three-carriage trains to be introduced from 2010.

Valid DLR tickets will be accepted on the replacement bus services which will operate:

Service A: Bank - Canary Wharf

Service B: Bank - Canary Wharf, express via Tower Gateway (07:30 - 16:30)

The bus service will not stop at West India Quay and Poplar, please use Canary Wharf station.

Trains will operate:

·         Stratford - Lewisham

·         Poplar - Beckton

·         Lewisham - Woolwich Arsenal

·         Crossharbour - Woolwich Arsenal

·         Canning Town - Woolwich Arsenal

On Christmas Day no DLR services will be running.

On Boxing Day 26 December a special reduced service will operate on all DLR routes between about 08:30 and 23:30. Trains will run at least every 15 minutes on all routes with enhanced services between Tower Gateway and Lewisham and Between Stratford and Canary Wharf. Bank DLR platforms will be closed.

On Sunday 27 December and Bank Holiday Monday 28 December DLR will run a modified Sunday service with enhanced frequencies between Tower Gateway and Lewisham and between Stratford and Canary Wharf. Bank DLR platforms will be closed.
